Abstract:

This study is designed to develop a valid and reliable scale aimed at measuring school managers’ leadership styles according to teachers’ perceptions. The validity and reliability analysis of the scale was carried out with the participation of 220 teachers. The study resulted in a scale consisting of 16 substances under 3 factors that describe 57,450 of the total variance. The scale consists of sub-dimensions that recognize democratic, autocratic and full freedom, which are leadership styles. Opening and verifying factors have been analyzed to test the structural validity of the measurement. Based on the discovery factor analysis for the three sub-dimensions (democratic, autocratic and full-liberal leadership style), the factor burden is above .50 for all materials. The conformity values obtained in the verifying factor analysis are x2/df= 1,758; GFI= ,938; AGFI=,925; NFI=,930; CFI= ,950, RMSEA= 0,58 and SRMR= ,059. The total reliability ratio of the measurement is a =.83. The reliability ratings calculated within the three subdimensions are .89, .82 for the subdimensions of democratic leadership and .71 for the subdimensions of leadership recognizing full freedom. In a democratic and fully-liberal style, men’s teachers’ ratings were higher, while women’s teachers’ ratings were higher in the autocratic style. The correlation analysis found a statistically meaningful relationship between the democratic style and the autocratic and fully-liberal style. But there was no meaningful relationship between a full-fledged leadership style and an autocratic leadership style.
