The aim of this study is to compare Plato's 'ideal state' and Fârâbî's 'virtuous city/state' conceptions. The period during which Fârâbî lived was a period in which more complex political relations were experienced compared to Plato's period, especially when the oppressive effect of religion was more intense. At a time when Fârâbî is under the intense influence of a heavenly religion and divine law, he tries to combine the classical political philosophy with widespread precepts in a religious society and, in a sense, develops an original understanding of the state by bringing the Plato's thought to the cosmopolitan empire scale. In this context, the study will enlighten us about today’s concepts of politics, state, democracy and authoritarianism and contribute to the related literature.
