Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine the status of social media use in young people between the ages of 9 and 15 and whether social media has an impact on the emotional status of young people. The research method was used during the design. The universe of research is composed of young people between the ages of 9-15 years. The group is 520 young people. The data collection tools used are the survey form and the PANAS scale. The survey form has been used by the visual statistical method for the findings, and the percentage and frequency values are calculated. The Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to determine whether there is a relationship between the social media accounts that young people use and their emotional conditions. The research found that the digital media tool that young people prefer to use is the mobile phone, they use the digital media tools to share the most photos and play games, they prefer to spend the most time with their friends on social media, they can sometimes ask for help from their friends when they have a problem in the social environment, they often think they have no friends and they can often share and ask for help with their parents when they suffer from harassment in the social environment. Furthermore; while there is no meaningful relationship between youth's Facebook use conditions and PANAS Scale results, there is a negative direction and meaningful correlation between Instagram use conditions and PANAS Scale results.
