MIST ÜLKELERİNDE SAĞLIK HARCAMALARI ve EKONOMİK KALKINMA İLİŞKİSİ: PANEL VERİ ANALİZİ
2023
Journal:
Sosyal Bilimler Elektronik Dergisi (sbedergi)

Abstract:

2023
Author:
Abstract:

The level of the health status of the individuals who make up the society also shows the economic development of that society. The health expenditure for the education of healthy individuals and the preservation of the health levels of individuals is also at the forefront of the elements that increase the accumulation of human capital. On the other hand, it is also obvious that health expenditure, which has a significant impact on economic development, will increase the amount of qualified labour.

This article examines the relationship between health expenditure and economic development in the MIST countries formed by Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey in the period between 2000 and 2019. The data used are health expenditure per person and GDP data per person and are obtained from the World Bank database. The combination relationship between the series was tested by the Westerlund (2008) test, while the determination of the causality relationship was used by the Dumitrescu-Hurlin Panel Causal Analysis.

According to the empirical findings of the study, there is a bilateral causal relationship between health expenditure in MIST countries and economic development.
