Özet:

Application of abortion which has been carried out since the beginning of humanity for controlling productivity and/or fertility has been issue for discussion in every period of history. This historical practice for the woman body is not only the issue of medicine and health but has also been included in the main area of interest of social, political, legal, religious and moral systems for the sustainability of society. Abortion which had been carried out commonly by midwives and women healers within the framework of traditional folk medicine until the 19th century got into the male domination area of medicine together with medicine becoming scientific and specialized. Women healers who had been consulted by women in order to cease unprecedented pregnancy for centuries were prohibited from abortion practices due to rational reasons and legal regulations in various geographies throughout the world or they were punished for these practices from then on. Abortion practice that emerged together with modern medicine and was experienced as a change of power has been one of the issues of main discussions of feminist policy with this aspect apart from various aspects it includes from the perspective of women. In this study, the history of abortion as a practice in which the male dominant patriarchy aims directly female body will be discussed in the framework of current feminist policy; in this framework ancient civilizations, Medieval "witch-hunts", population policies in modern society, political and religious approaches co-existing with these historical periods will be analyzed
