The Turkish speaking and belonging to the Christian Orthodox faith, the Gagavuzs, especially in the early periods of the Republic, have been very concerned with the close interest of Turkish diplomats who served in Bulgaria and Romania. Among the Turkish diplomats, the person most concerned with Gagavuz was the Buddhist Ambassador Hamdullah Suphi Godohover. Between 1923 and 1940, one of the most important issues in the Turkish-Romanian bilateral relations was the migration of Turks in Romania to Anadolu. On the issue of immigration that occurred irregularly and caused the victim of the Turks, a immigration agreement was signed between Turkey and Romania in 1936 during Hamdullah Suphi's embassy. If the Turkish-speaking Gagavuzs were also scheduled to migrate to Turkey and be included in this immigration agreement, this was not the case.
Turkish speaking Gagauz people who belong to the Orthodox Christian belief have attracted the attention of the Turkish diplomats serving in Romania and Bulgaria during the early republican era. Among the Turkish diplomats, ambassador Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöven is the one who has shown particular interest to the Gagauz people. During the 1923-1940 period, one of the main issues between Turkey and Romania was the migration of Muslim-Turks from Romania to Turkey. The irregular migration of Turks was causing moral and material damages to the Turks in Romania. In order to solve these problems, a migration agreement was signed in 1936 between Turkey and Romania during the ambassadorship of Hamdullah Suphi. Although the migration of the Orthodox Gagauz people to Turkey and their inclusion to the afore-mentioned agreement have been discussed, this was not implemented.
