Abstract:

Slang, which is a special way of communication, is an important reflection of culture and perception. It is possible to consider slang as a part of vocabulary instead of a separate language. Whereas slang has different denominations such as informal speech, rude speech, colloquial speech, insulting speech, vulgar speech, and street language, since the structural dynamics of speech, flow of conversation have a different tone among people who are close to each other, slang occupies an important place in everyday life. (On the other hand,) Slang does not take place in education. However, using appropriate slang expressions in education will allow students to recognize the culture and perception of the language. Students who know slang words that are commonly used and suitable for their level will have the opportunity to look at the intricacies and richness of Turkish from a different perspective. In this sense, slang should not be seen as a prohibition. Turkish slang should be taught to students via appropriate examples. Proverbs and idioms stand out at this point. In the study, slang proverbs and idioms were detected in Turkish through document analysis. Those of which to be taught were presented in the forms of activity in the light of various methods and techniques of educational sciences. These activities can be used in teaching Turkish both as a foreign language and as a mother tongue.
