Abstract:

Seasonal agricultural labour which covers multi-layer social challenges is very comprehensive and complex social problem. In this context the problems regarding children of the seasonal migratory families are highlighted. The children who have to migrate with their families during seasonal migration are at risk for poor education and health services. This study is based on both interviews and questionnaires with the participants such as owner of fields, employers, brokers, and seasonal migratory agricultural workers. The data of children were also provided using participatory observation technique in the field. Interrupting of the education of those children repeatedly in every season has negative impact on their school success. It leads to make those children potential seasonal workers. Thus ‘seasonal agricultural labour’ is called socially heritage to the children from their parents. The other problem is the serious health issues related to poor living and working conditions of the workers. The children are more vulnerable to some communicable diseases, nutritional disorder besides occupational safety problems. On the one hand the seasonal child workers, as a cheap labour force in this sector, may lose education opportunity leading being the unqualified workers, in the other hand they may expose poor living and working conditions for health
