Abstract:

This study discussed the media presentation of the February 6 Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes. Based on the theoretical idea of social integration, solidarity, and the production of collective consciousness through media, the study primarily focuses on solidarity, social solidarity, and the role of media in social solidarity. With the descriptive method, media contents in the post-earthquake period were evaluated under four main titles 'Disaster of the Century' Emphasis and the Political Power's Call for Help; Emphasis on the Inadequacy of Political Power from the Opposition Wing; Praise for the Aid Mobilization of Citizens and NGOs; Fading of Solidarity Over Time and Forgetting the Earthquake Zone. The analysis concluded that while awareness of social solidarity was high in the first days after the 6 February Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes, this social solidarity started to polarize in the following days, and the process became politicized, that politicization was reflected in the media and made social solidarity polarized, that the media did not focus on the real issues of the earthquake sufficiently and turned to content parallel to political discourses.
