Stratonikeia is one of the most important Karia cities and has large necropolis area near Kabasakız, İğdemir and Akdağ. Archaeological excavations have been conducted since 1977 in the city and necropolis area. Over a hundred tombs have been excavated and came to light a lot of terracotta and glass finds with datable coins. During the Akdağ excavation in 1999 by the Muğla Museum, a tomb had come to light and its finds had been taken to the Muğla Museum. The tomb group consists of one urna, one handled jar, eight terracotta unguentaria, four glass unguentaria, one glass alabastron, one miniatur bowl, two lamps and one bronze bead. They must belong to two different burials one of which is Hellenistic and the other one is Roman. Akdağ tomb materials give information about the Karian Hellenistic and Roman pottery which is not known sufficiently
