Abstract:

The distinct and widespread use of inverted sentences in Kosovan and Macedonian dialects of Turkish language is their most salient characteristic distinguishing them from other standard dialects. Turkish has a long history of relationship with other Balkan languages of over five centuries. During this period, Turkish language that influenced Balkan languages has also been influenced by local languages, though not to the same extent. The present study focuses on the multilayered interaction in Balkan dialects, and particularly deals with reasons for the emergence of inverted sentences in Macedonian and Kosovan dialects
