It is believed that improving the quality of life of society, the shortest way for individuals to adapt to the world with their own culture and dynamics can be achieved by music from the arts and sub branches. Music is a universal value that hosts individual, social, cultural, economic and educational functions. Family, age, education, material and spiritual cultural values of music, etc. As a result of interrelated variables, it is known that first individuals, then uniting similar, different aesthetic preferences throughout society and countries are developed. The music listening habit is an event that begins with family and is formed especially with close friends and some popular elements. It is believed that education and its content have a significant impact on the formation, change and development of this habit. In this regard, the study of the music listening habits of future teachers’ “learning candidates” will keep light on how future generations will turn to a musical life. The study of the musical life of the teachers candidates who come from different regions of our country and are spending a certain period of their lives at the university’s educational faculty will also enable a certain age group of young people to have an idea of the music life. The research covers 2015-16 academic year of the good period of the University of Kütahya DPU educational faculty students. According to the study, the candidates prefer to listen to local pop music, which is followed by THM and TSM. The candidates often spend their days listening to music using the internet, and the THM information is at a medium level.

Art and music as a sub-branch of art are being considered as an important way for individuals to comply the world around them with their culture and a way for increasing the life quality of a society. Music is a universal language which has social, cultural, economical and educational aspects. Music helps individuals, societies and countries to develop different aesthetics which is effected by other variables such as family, age, education and cultural values. Music listening habits are formed by family, friends and other popular variables as well as education life. Student-teachers music listening habits are important to be investigated because their habits will influence the prosperity’s music listening habits. The purpose of this study to investigate music listening habits of student-teacher. The results of this study will shed light on the music listening habits of education faculty students who have different background and hometowns. Moreover, the results will help us to understand the music listening habits of a certain age group which is 18-22.The participants of this study are the students who were studying in Kutahya Dumlupınar University in 2015-2016 education year. The results showed that the participants prefer Turkish Pop Music followed by Turkish Folk Music and Turkish Art Music. In addition, the internet is being used as primary music listening source and their knowledge of Turkish Folk Music is average.
