Abstract:

Objectives: To provide the first systematic analysis of the impact of blockchain technology on Quick Commerce, to determine the emerging themes and insights regarding future advancements in quick commerce and blockchain technology as well as the synergy between the two. Design: Thematic analysis of free-text data from experts and academicians-based interview. Setting and participants: Adult experts with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of blockchain, cyber-security, and cryptocurrency; academicians from various institutes and blockchain developers; people from e-commerce, finance and management industry. Main outcome measures: Free-text categorised by themes, and their impact on various other segments and themes. Methods: 25 respondents provided free-text comments. Data were coded using a multistage approach: (1) coding of comments into general categories (eg, technological, legal, organisational, etc), (2) coding of subcategories within main categories (eg, accessibility and traceability, privacy and security, data related compliance, Viability, consumer data etc), (3) cross-sectional analysis to identify themes cutting across categories, (4) analysing the different statements to draw various conclusions under the identified categories. Results: Most free-text respondents provided positive comments about the impact of implementation of blockchain technology in quick commerce. They also talked about the hindrances some quick commerce owners, as well as customers, may face due to this implementation, if it occurs. Conclusion: This study presents specific areas of exploration of harnessing blockchain technology in the quick commerce sector and reveals a number of themes present across various stages of implementation of the same. While the majority of comments were positive, analysis reveals concerns shared by a significant number of respondents and the alternate or possible solutions for the same.
