Abstract:

The last primary school teaching undergraduate curriculum was implemented in the 2018-2019 academic year in Turkey. This study evaluated the renewed 2018 primary school teaching undergraduate curriculum by comparing it with the 2006 primary school teaching undergraduate curriculum implemented until 2018. Document analysis technique, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used. The following results were obtained in the research: The courses in the 2018 curriculum were classified into three major groups as Content Knowledge, General Knowledge, and Pedagogical Knowledge, as is in the 2006 curriculum. The most extensive change in the 2018 curriculum is in elective courses, which covers 25% of the courses in the curriculum. The Council of Higher Education in Turkey increased the percentage of elective courses, on which it had been working for a long time, to adapt to the Bologna Process and succeeded with the 2018 program. A crucial change in the 2018 program is the decrease in course hours. The total course hours, 178 hours in the 2006 curriculum, were reduced to 150 hours in the 2018 curriculum. Besides, it is seen that the hours, terms, content, and names of some courses were changed in the 2018 curriculum. Just as new courses were added to the 2018 curriculum for the first time, so some courses in the 2006 curriculum were removed from the 2018 curriculum. Based on the research results, some suggestions were offered. Based on the results of the research, it has been suggested that the 2018 primary school teaching undergraduate curriculum will be revised in line with the opinions of all faculty in this department.
