Retrospective analysis of 59 patients with esophageal foreign bodies who were treated in the last 3 years in our department were evaluated. These patients underwent rigid esophagoscopy under general anaesthesia. In 8 patients (%14), no foreign body was found in the esophagus. Coin our coin-like metals were the commonest esophageal foreign bodies (59%). The second common foreign body was meat bolus and/or bone particles. Two cervical esophageal perforations occurred while retrieving the bone particles. Throacotomy or laporatomy were not required for removal of esophageal foreign body; mortality or permanent morbidity were not developed in any of the cases. We suggest that rigid esophagoscopy is a safe and reliable method for esophageal foreign in body removal.
