Gençlerde Ekonomi Okuryazarlığı Düzeylerinin Belirlenmesine Yönelik Bir Araştırma

Abstract:

Toplumu oluşturan bireyler günlük faaliyetlerinde ekonomi bilgisine ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Ekonomi bilgisinin oluşturulması ise bireysel ilgi, araştırma ve alınan ekonomi ders geçmişine bağlıdır. Ekonomi bilgisinin geliştirilmesi ekonomi okuryazarlığı düzeyinin artırılması ile ilişkilidir. İlgili literatürde genellikle ekonomi okuryazarlığı düzeyi yüksek bireylerin ekonomik kararları daha rasyonel verebildikleri ve ekonomi olaylarında daha isabetli hesaplamalar yapabildiği kabul edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada Bandırma Onyedi Eylül Üniversitesi öğrencileri üzerinde demografik değişkenler, ekonomi olaylarına ilgi ve ekonomi eğitiminin, ekonomi okuryazarlığı düzeyleri üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada Gerek ve Kurt (2011) tarafından geçerlilik ve güvenilirlik testleri yapılmış olan 34 maddelik ekonomi okuryazarlığı ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Ekonomi okuryazarlığının alt boyutları olan ekonomi bilgisi, ekonomik rasyonellik, sosyoekonomik yansımalar ve bireysel ekonomi planlama faktörleri ile değişkenler arasındaki ilişki ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre cinsiyet, gelir değişkeni ve alınan ekonomi dersi sayısı; ekonomi bilgisi ve ekonomik akılcılık anlamlı olarak etkilemektedir. Bu sonuçlarla erkeklerde ekonomi bilgisi ve ekonomik akılcılığı olumlu etkilenmektedir. Gelir değişkeni ekonomi bilgisi ve ekonomik akılcılığı anlamlı şekilde pozitif etkilemektedir. Ekonomi haberlerini takip sıklığı ile ekonomik rasyonalite üzerinde etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ekonomi eğitiminin ekonomi okuryazarlığının artırılması için önemli bir araç olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Bu sonuçlar daha bilinçli ve doğru ekonomik kararların alınabilmesi için toplumda ekonomi okuryazarlığı düzeyinin artırılmasının önemli olduğu doğrulanmaktadır.

Individuals who make society need economic knowledge in their daily activities. The creation of economics knowledge depends on the individual interest, research and the history of the economics course received. The development of economic knowledge is associated with the increase in the level of economic literature. In the relevant literature, it has often been admitted that high level of economic literature individuals can make economic decisions more rational and make more accurate calculations in economic events. This study examined demographic variables, interest in economic events, and the impact of economic education on the levels of economic literature on the students of Bandırma Onyedi September University. The study applied the 34 material economy literature scale, which was validity and reliability tests by Need and Kurt (2011). Economic knowledge, economic rationality, socio-economic reflections and individual economic planning factors and variables are the sub-dimensions of economic literature. According to the research results, gender, income variable and the number of economics lessons received; economic knowledge and economic rationality significantly affect. These results have a positive impact on economic knowledge and economic intelligence in men. Income variable significantly positively affects economic knowledge and economic rationalism. Economic news has been found to have an impact on economic rationality with the frequency of follow-up. The findings have shown that economic education is an important tool for increasing economic literacy. These findings confirm that it is important to increase the level of economic literacy in society in order to be able to make more conscious and correct economic decisions.

In the related literature, it is generally accepted that individuals with high economic literacy level can make economic decisions more rationally and make more accurate calculations in economic events. In this study, the effects of demographic variables, interest in economic events and economic literacy levels of economics education on Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University students were investigated. In this study, the 34-item economic literacy scale, whose validity and reliability tests have been performed by Gerek and Kurt (2011), has been applied. The relationship between economic knowledge, economic rationality, socioeconomic reflections, individual economic planning factors and variables, which are the sub-dimensions of economic literacy, has been revealed. According to the findings of the research, gender, income variable and number of economics courses taken affect the economic knowledge and economic rationality significantly. With these results, economic knowledge and economic rationality are positively affected in men. The income variable significantly affects the economics computer economic knowledge and economic rationalitiy positively. It has been determined that it is effective on economic rationality with the frequency of following the economic news. Findings revealed that economic education is an important tool for increasing economic literacy in society. These results are confirmed to increase the level of economic literacy in the society in order to make more informed and correct economic decisions.
