Bu araştırmada, “evren” kavramının ortaokul öğrencileri tarafından nasıl algılandığının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Betimsel tarama modelinde nitel bir çalışma olarak tasarlanan araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2021-2022 eğitim öğretim yılında Muş il merkezinde iki farklı ortaokulda öğrenimlerine devam eden ve kolay ulaşılabilir örnekleme yöntemine göre seçilmiş 239 ortaokul öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında öğrencilere, 2 bölümden oluşan metafor formu dağıtılmıştır. Bu formun ilk bölümünde, öğrencilerin cinsiyet ve sınıf düzeylerini öğrenmek için 2 farklı soru bulunurken ikinci bölümünde öğrencilerin kavrama ilişkin algılarının tespiti için “Evren ........ gibidir. Çünkü ........” ifadesine yer verilmiştir. Öğrencilerin 5-10 dakika arası sürede doldurdukları formlar üzerinden elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde ise içerik analizi yönteminden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında ortaokul öğrencilerinin toplam 100 farklı metafor geliştirdikleri görülürken, bunlar arasında “dünya”, “sonsuzluk”, “çiçek”, “boşluk”, “hayat” ve “yuva” metaforlarının en sık tekrar edilenler olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Geliştirilen metaforların gerekçeleri temel alındığında, 5 farklı kavramsal kategorinin ortaya çıktığı bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu kategoriler sırasıyla “yaşam olarak evren”, “büyüklük olarak evren”, “duygu olarak evren”, “olumsuz algı olarak evren” ve “gizem olarak evren” şeklindedir. Bu bağlamda öğrencilerin “evren” kavramına yönelik olumsuz algıya sahip olmalarının gerekçeleriyle araştırılarak belirlenmesi ve çözüm önerilerin geliştirilmesi gereklidir.
In this research, it is aimed to determine how the concept of “universe” is perceived by secondary school students. The study group of the research, which was designed as a qualitative study in the descriptive survey model, consists of 239 secondary school students who were selected with easily accessible sampling method study in two different secondary schools in the city center of Muş in the 2021-2022 academic year. Within the scope of the research, a metaphor form consisting of 2 parts was distributed to the students. In the first part of this form, there are 2 different questions to find out the gender and grade levels of the students; in the second part, the expression “The Universe is like ........ Because ........” is used to determine the perceptions of the students about the concept. Content analysis method was used to analyze the data obtained from the forms filled by the students in 5-10 minutes. While it was seen that secondary school students developed a total of 100 different metaphors within the scope of the research, it was understood that the most frequently repeated metaphors were “world”, “eternity”, “flower”, “space”, “life” and “nest”. Based on the justifications of the developed metaphors, it was found that 5 different conceptual categories emerged. These categories are listed as “the universe as life”, “the universe as size”, “the universe as emotion”, “the universe as a negative perception” and “the universe as a mystery”. In this context, it is necessary to investigate the reasons why students have negative perceptions about the concept of "universe" and to develop solutions.
