Romantizmin temalarından biri olan öteki-ben, daha çok psikolojik bir problem olarak ele alınmış ve edebiyatta karakterin psikolojisiyle ilgisi çerçevesinde yorumlanmıştır. Hâlbuki öteki-ben aynı zamanda romantik bir edebi tekniktir. Ancak bu konuda edebiyat eleştirmenlerinden çok psikiyatrlar çalışmıştır. Örneğin bir psikiyatr olan Otto Rank’ın bu konu hakkındaki çalışmasının temelini edebi metinler oluşturmaktadır. Türk edebiyatında, batılı anlamda bir öteki-ben teması için Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil’i beklemek gerekir. Peyami Safa, Sabahattin Ali, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Oğuz Atay, Orhan Pamuk gibi yazarlar da bu temayı çeşitli yönlerden geliştirerek, farklı tekniklerle ele almışlardır. Bu makalede Rank’ın Eş Benlik isimli kitabı temel alınarak, Türk edebiyatında bu tekniği kullanan üç önemli roman –Aşk-ı Memnû, İçimizdeki Şeytan ve Huzur- bu açıdan yorumlanmaya çalışılmıştır.
The other-I, one of the topics of romanticism, was more treated as a psychological problem and interpreted in the literature in the context of the relationship with the psychology of the character. However, the other-I am also a romantic literary technique. A lot of psychiatrists have worked on this. For example, a psychiatrist, Otto Rank’s work on this subject is based on literary texts. In Turkish literature, we need to wait for Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil for another-I theme in the western sense. Writers like Peyami Safa, Sabahattin Ali, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Son Atay, Orhan Pamuk have also developed this topic from various aspects, addressed it with different techniques. Based on the book of Rank’s Eyes Self, three important novels that use this technique in Turkish literature – Love – Memnû, Satan in Us and Peace – have been tried to be interpreted in this regard.
The double, one of the themes of romanticism, was considered as a psychological problem and interpreted about psychology in literature. But the double is also a romantic literary technique. However, psychiatrists worked more on literature than literary critics. Literary texts form the basis of Otto Rank's work on this subject. In Turkish literature, it is necessary to wait for Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil for the double theme in the western sense. The authors like Peyami Safa, Sabahattin Ali, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Oguz Atay, Orhan Pamuk have developed this theme in various ways, have dealt with different techniques. In this article, three important novels using this technique in Turkish literature - Aşk-ı Memnû, İçimizdeki Şeytan and Huzur- are tried to be interpreted in this respect based on Rank's The Double.
