2017

Route Education and Social Science Journal
Author:
Abstract:

2017
Author:
Abstract:

The Turkish Coffee was painted by Western painters in the 18th and 19th centuries as a drink and a sociological symbol that holds an important place in the daily lives of the Turks. In the paintings of artists such as Jean Baptiste Vanmour, Jean Leon Gerome, Carle Van Loo, Pierre Desire Guillemet, there are Turkish Coffee themes. The French Ambassador, Marquis de Ferriol, arrived in Istanbul in 1699 and lived in Istanbul for 38 years. The artist’s work, Recueil de cent estampes representant differentes nations du Levant, 1714, contains a series of gravures in which the Ottoman, Greece, Eflak and Hungary’s different religions, the residents, are painted. The 18th edition of Vanmour. It is interpreted as the fragments of the century's Ottoman life. The artist has studied and admired Turkish culture closely during his lifetime in Istanbul. Vanmour's pictures are important in terms of questioning the sociological symbol of the Turkish Coffee rather than being a drink in the daily life of the Turks. The Turkish coffee has become an important symbol of the concept of "hostiness" which has taken an important place in the traditions and traditions of the Turkish people.
