Ranulas are cysts resulting from retention or extravasation of saliva from the sublingualo or mınor salivary gland. Two clinical varieties of the ranula have been described, the superficial or oral ranula and cervical or plunging ranula. The plunging ranula is herniated through the mylohyoid ınuscle andpresents as a swelling in the submandibular region and the upper part of the neck. Plunging ranula is a very rare disease, usually occurs from sublingual salivary gland. The treatment of plunging ranula is based on the pathogenesis of the lesion, because the aetiological misconceptions can result in inapropriate treatment and recurrence.
