Abstract:

The oldest tezkire in the Persian literature is Lübâbü'l-Elbâb written by Muhammed Avfî at the beginning of the seventh hijri century. This work is made up of the biographies of poets. The first Persian books whose names contain the Word “tezkire” are Attâr'ın Tezkiretü'l-Evliyâ, which explains the states of the sufi masters and saints, and Nasîrüddîn-i Tûsî’s Tezkire, which is also known as “Risâle-i Âgâz ve Encâm” and which gives information about the Hereafter. The Persian tezkires which function as basic sources for the enlightenment of social and political history generally are made up of introduction, main text and conclusion sections.  This article is the translation of the article "Tezkire Nivîsî-yi Farsî" in Iran's Dânişnâme-i Jihân-i İslam. In this article, information about Persian tezkire writing is given and what kind of tezkires are written in which period is stated.
