Türkiye’de Bebek Ölüm Hızının Sosyoekonomik Belirleyicileri

Türkiye, son yıllarda bebek ölümlerini önemli ölçüde azaltan nadir ülkelerden biridir. Ancak halen birçok ülkenin gerisinde kalmaktadır. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de bebek ölümlerinin sosyo-ekonomik nedenlerini tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda, üniversite mezunu kadın yüzdesi, sağlık harcamalarının hane halkı harcamaları içerisindeki yüzdesi, GİNİ katsayısı, yoksulluk oranı, doğurganlık hızı ve kentsel nüfus yüzdesi, bu çalışmanın bağımsız değişkenleri olarak ele alınmıştır. Çalışma verileri, 2014-2018 yıllarını kapsamaktadır ve çalışmanın amacına ulaşabilmek için panel regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda eğitim düzeyinin bebek ölümleri üzerinde istatistiki açıdan anlamlı ve negatif bir etkisinin, doğurganlık hızının ise pozitif etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05).

Turkey is one of the rare countries that has significantly reduced child deaths in recent years. However, many countries are still behind. This study is aimed at identifying the socio-economic causes of child deaths in Turkey. In this context, women’s percentage of university graduates, the percentage of health expenditure in household expenditure, the GINI rate, poverty rate, fertility rate and urban population percentage have been considered as the independent variables of this study. The study data covers the years 2014-2018 and the panel regression analysis has been used to the purpose of the study. The study found that the level of education has a statistically meaningful and negative impact on child deaths, while the rate of fertility has a positive impact (p<0,05).

Thus, in this study, it was aimed to determine the socio-economic causes of infant mortality in Turkey. In this context, the percentage of women with university degrees, the percentage of health expenditure in household expenditures, the GINI coefficient, the poverty rate, the fertility rate, and the urban population percentage were considered as independent variables that could possibly affect infant mortality. Data used in panel regression analyses covers the period of 2014-2018. In the results of the study, it was determined that education level had a statistically significant and negative effect, while the fertility rate had significant and positive effect (p <0.05) on infant mortality.
