1703 yılında bir padişahın hal’i, bir şeyhülislâmın katli ve pek çok devlet adamının azli ile sonuçlanan Edirne Vak’ası’nın anlatıldığı Şefîknâme isimli eser, Şefîk Mehmed tarafından kaleme alınmıştır. Hakkında birkaç kaynakta bilgi bulunan Şefîk Mehmed, İstanbulda doğmuş, vak’anüvislik, kâtiplik ve küçük evkaf muhasebeciliği gibi görevlerde bulunmuştur. Şefîk Mehmed’in Edirne Vak’asını muğlak ve sanatlı bir üslûpla anlattığı eseri Şefîk-nâme, 9 bölüm olarak tertip edilmiştir. Her bölümde Edirne Vak’ası’nın bir merhalesi anlatılırken, herkesin anlamaması için müphem ve muammâlı bir üslûp kullanılmıştır. Bu yazıda kısaca Şefîk Mehmed’in hayatından ve Şefîk-nâme’nin muhteva, dil ve üslûbundan bahsedilmiştir.
