Abstract:

The main problems of today’s cities are the unidentified, unpersonal, cold human settlements. Urban transformation works ensure the healing of physical tissue, and it is difficult to produce socially and culturally attractive places. In this context, the recommendations on our cities are asked to help the restoration of neighborhood life with the spatial design. In this article it is stated that the good values expected from the ancient neighborhood, such as neighbourhood, assistance, and commitment to the place, are weakened; therefore, the ancient neighborhood can be physically built but cannot be re-produced in the direction of the inner world and human relations; it is not the wrong construction activity; it is a problem related to the transformation of the field of value. The claim of the impossibility of the neighborhood is based on the assumption that in today’s circumstances the neighborhood is a lost value, while based on various reasons. It is possible to talk about many general and special reasons that shrink and even make the possibilities of neighbourhood unwanted. The frequency of people changing place in place; the social content that television replaces with social media; the rise of individuality; the rise of capitalist values and the rise of consumption-indifferentiated happiness and the loss of confidence, the most important element of social capital, are considered the main causes.
