Purpose: Our aim is to assess the effects of pachoemulsification surgery on activity performance and participation among the geriatrics with cenile cataract. Material and Methods: Patients were divided into two groups according to peroperative visual acuity (Group 1: ≤0,4; Group 2: >0,4). Demographic data and ocular findings were recorded. Visual acuity was assesed with Snellen Chart. The Turkish translation of National Eye Institute Visual Functioning Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25), Functional Independance Measure (FIM) and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) were surveyed to each goup before and 3 months after the operation. Results: Group I (n: 36) mean age was 70,91±6,429 years and Group 2 (n: 24) mean age was 70±6,15 years. Visual acuity before and after surgery were 0,31±0,85 and 0,9±0,06 in Group I also 0,53±0,05 and 0,90±0,03 in Group II. NEI-VFQ-25, FIM and COPM results were significantly higher in Group I (p<0,05) after pachoemulsification. Group I’s activity preference were activities of self care while Group II prefered productive and recreational activities additional to self care activities. There were statistically meaningfull change in occupational performance, participation, independence in activites of daily living and quality of life in Group 1 (p<0,05). conclusion: Pachoemulsification effects the activity performance and participation of geriatrics with cenile cataract with preoperatif 0,4 and under visual acuity. More studies must be planned to evaluate the effects of occupational therapy on activity performance and participation among cenile cataract patients
