Yüce Allah, son ilahi kitabını; Kur’ân’ı anlaşılsın ve gereğince amel edilsin diye göndermiştir. Bunun için kıyamete kadar gelecek bütün insanları Kur’ân’ı anlamaya davet etmiş ve ona göre hareket etmekle sorumlu tutmuştur. Kur’ân, aslında açık ve anlaşılır bir kitaptır. Ancak herkesin anlayış kabiliyeti ve bilgi seviyesi aynı değildir. Bunun için onun tefsir edilmesi ve herkesin anlayacağı şekilde açıklanması gerekli hale gelmiştir. Hz. Peygamber, Kur’ân’ı tebliğ etmiş, anlaşılmayan veya yanlış anlaşılan âyetlerini izah etmiş ve hayatına tatbik ederek onu hem sözlü hem de fiili olarak tefsir etmiştir. Bu görevin önemini kavrayan sahabe, tefsir faaliyetlerine eğilmiş, Hz. Peygamber’in bu konudaki sözlerini ve Kur’ân’ın tefsiri mahiyetinde olan hayatıyla ilgili bilgileri (sünnet/sîret) sonraki nesillere aktarmışlardır. Sahabeden sonra tâbiîn ve etbâu’t-tâbiîn de bu konuda üstlerine düşen görevleri yerine getirmiş, sahabeden aldıklarını sonraki nesillere aktarmışlardır. Tedvin döneminde hem Hz. Peygamber ve sahabenin tefsirleri kayda geçirilmiş hem de farklı ilimlerin verileri vasıtasıyla Kur’ân tefsir edilmiştir. Bu sayede çok sayıda ve çok farklı tefsirler meydana gelmiştir. Bu tefsirleri bilmek tefsir araştırmacıları için çok önemlidir. Bunun için önemli müfessir ve tefsirleri tanıtan Muhammed Fâzıl İbn ‘Âşûr’un (öl. 1970) et-Tefsîr ve ricâlüh adlı eserini tanıtmayı uygun bulduk. Ömer Pakiş tarafından Türkçeye de kazandırılan söz konusu eseri tanıtmaya geçmeden önce müellif hakkında kısa bir şekilde bilgi vereceğiz.
