Abstract:

Purpose: Empathy is an important element in the development of interpersonal relationships. The study was conducted with the aim of determining the impact of the empathic skills training program given to nursing first-class students on the development of students’ empathic tendencies and empathic skills. Patients and Method: The study was carried out in the pre-test-sontest order in a single group of semi-experimental studies. The survey contains demographic characteristics in order to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of students, the Empatic Trend EEA and Empatic Skills EEA-B scales were developed by Dökmen in 1994 to evaluate the Empatic Trends and Skills. The number and percentage distribution in the data assessment and the EPO-B and EPO average empathic points are compared with the paired samples t test. Results: The student's post-training empathy score average is statistically significant at the advanced level compared to the post-training p=0,000. The average empathic tendency has not been statistically significant between the differences between prior and after training. The result: With the Empatic Skills Development Program, the first-class nursing students’ empathic skills have increased significantly, but there has been no change in their empathic trends.
