Goal: COVID-19 pandemic has created a global threat to mental health of health personnel. The surgical team that dealt with infected patients during the pandemic period was exposed to a high risk of COVID-19 infection. This study was aimed at investigating the effects of COVID-19 fear on the mental health of the surgical staff. In this cutting study, the COVID-19 fear scale (FCV-19S) and the Depression Anxiety Stress scale (DASS-21) were used to investigate the mental health of the surgical staff (n=110). Results: The COVID-19 fear score of the surgical staff was determined as medium [FCV-19S=20 (15.0-24.0)]. Approximately a third of the surgical staff suffered from depression, anxiety and stress (41 per cent (37.27 per cent), 35 per cent (31.82 per cent) and 34 per cent (30.91 per cent). The relationship between COVID-19 fear and anxiety and stress levels was positive and meaningful (r = 0.416, p = 0,000; ρ = 0.298, p = 0.002). Women, nurses and married (no-child) staff were associated with increased levels of depression and anxiety (respectively, p<0.01, p<0.05. by p<0.01, p<0.05. by p<0.01. The result: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the surgical staff experienced COVID-19 fear and consequently psychological disorders. In order to maintain operational services efficiently, it is necessary to evaluate the mental health of the surgical team and to support the staff in the risk group in particular.
