Palyatif bakım, hastalığı daha fazla tedavi edilemez olan hastaları, hastalıklarının son aşamasına kadar yaşam kalitelerinin artması ve acılarının azaltılması açısından destekleyen bir hizmettir. Giderek yaşlanan nüfus ve toplumun bireyselleşmesiyle bağlantılı olarak ailenin sorumluluklarının azaldığı dünya şartlarında palyatif bakımın ve palyatif bakım hasta ve hasta yakınlarına yönelik sosyal hizmetin rolü giderek daha fazla önem kazanmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı palyatif bakımın hasta yakınları üzerindeki ekonomik, psikolojik ve sosyal etkileri ile hasta yakınlarının süreçte karşılaştıkları ihtiyaçları ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, amaçlı örneklem yöntemiyle İskenderun Devlet Hastanesi Palyatif Bakım Birimi’nden seçilen 15 hasta yakını ile nitel bir araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katılımcılardan toplanan veriler içerik analizi yoluyla analiz edilmiş, tema ve kategorilere ayrılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre katılımcıların görüşleri doğrultusunda 5 tema ve 26 kategori elde edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda hasta yakınlarının süreçte gelir kaybına uğradığı, sosyal çevresinde ve yaşantısında kayıplar yaşadığı, kaybetme korkusu ve belirsizlik kaygısı yaşadıkları ve en çok refakatçi desteğine ihtiyaç duydukları bulgularına ulaşılmıştır. Bu bulgular hasta yakınlarının süreç boyunca tıbbi sosyal hizmet birimi tarafından desteklenmesi gerektiğini göstermektedir.
Palliative care is a service that supports patients who are more untreated with the disease, in terms of improving their quality of life and reducing their pain until the last stage of their disease. The role of palliative care and palliative care for patients and their relatives in the world, where the family’s responsibilities are decreasing in connection with the increasingly aging population and society’s individualization, is becoming increasingly important. The aim of this study is to reveal the economic, psychological and social effects of palliative care on the patient's relatives and the needs of the patient's relatives in the process. For this purpose, a quality study was carried out with 15 patients chosen from the Palliative Care Unit of the Alexandria State Hospital with the purpose sample method. The data collected from participants was analyzed through content analysis, divided into themes and categories. According to the research findings, 5 topics and 26 categories were obtained according to the participants’ opinions. The research has found that the patient’s relatives have lost their income during the process, have lost their social environment and lives, have fear of loss and uncertainty, and need support from many companions. These findings show that the patient's relatives should be supported by the medical social service unit throughout the process.

The role of palliative care and social services for patients and their relatives is gaining importance in the world conditions in which it diminishes the responsibilities of the family in connection with the individualization of the ageing population and society. The aim of this study is to reveal the economic, psychological and social effects of palliative care on patient relatives and the needs in the process. For this purpose, we conducted a qualitative study with 15 relatives of patients selected from the Palliative Care Unit of Iskenderun State Hospital with a purposive sampling method. We analysed the data collected from the participants through content analysis and divided them into themes and categories. According to the findings of the research, 5 themes and 26 categories were developed from the analysis. In conclusion, we found that patients’ relatives lost income, suffered losses in their social environment and life, fear of losing and uncertainty anxiety and needed companion support most during the process. These findings show that the medical social service unit should support the relatives throughout the process.
