Abstract:

Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, the editor of a famous journal "Molla Nasreddin", was one of the pioneers of critical realism movement in the Azerbaijani literature at the beginning of the 20th century. Despite the strong tendencies of realism observed in Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s works, there are also romantic features that have not been much studied yet. From this point of view, we can say that Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s play "Kamancha" is a literary work where realism and romance meet. On the other hand, "Kamancha" is one of the first works on the Armenian problem in Karabakh. In general, it is in the works of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh that most of the Armenian characters in Azerbaijani literature can be found. Although Mammadguluzadeh witnessed the massacres committed by Armenian gangs, he managed to preserve objectivity in his literary works. The play "Kamancha" that describes the impact of the social disasters caused by the Armenian problem on the lives of individuals has not lost its actuality even though more than 100 years since the day it was written and the events described in it.
