Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the impact of the science experimental guide on the conceptual understanding of students in the field of physical events learning designed for students with mild-level mental disabilities. A special method was used in the study. The study included 8 high school students with a slight level of mental disability studying in the 5th grade. The Science Experimental Guide for the field of Physical Events Learning is enriched with active learning techniques and is designed to take advantage of the work sheets and avatar applications where the Prediction-Observation-Explanation (TGA) method is integrated. During the design, each student was attempted to use an avatar similar to his own physical characteristics to ensure that the student feels attached to the prepared material. At the same time, the professional screens of the experiments carried out by the researchers were also placed in the guide. The purpose of the research was to take advantage of the work leaves focused on discussions. It has been found that students have a variety of alternative concepts related to the field of physical events learning. However, after the implementation it has been determined that most alternative concepts have disappeared. Interest and attention periods for students with mild levels of mental disability are short. Therefore, it is recommended to take part in interesting events while designing the learning process for students with mild levels of mental disability.
