Urinary incontinence is the one's involuntary leakage of urine, which arises when intravesical pressure exceeds the maximal urethral closure pressure. Despite not posing a lethal incidence, urinary incontinence restricts ones' physical and social lives, and causes the development of such emotional problems, which may reach up to depression. Urinary incontinence affects not only the daily routines, and domestic activities of the women, it adversely affects the sexual lives of women as well. Nurses, with the advantage they exercise thanks to their gender, they render indispensable services within the multidisciplinary health staff, acting in the roles of clinician, consultant, instructor, supporter, and coordinator, to the women, struggling against the problem of urinary incontinence, and seeking remedies for their numerous problems, including sexuality. In this review, urinary incontinence definitions, types, incidence and preevelans the connection to sexuality and in this context the important roles nurses will be discussed.
