Celal Güzelses türküleri, oluştukları dönemin sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik yaşamından kesitler sunar. Bu türkülerde ataerkil toplumun kadına bakış açısı, erkek ve kadın arasındaki ilişki ve iletişim şekilleri, gündelik yaşamdan izler bulunur. Başta erkek olmak üzere kadın ve erkeğin duygu ve düşünce dünyası, adeta yağlı boya bir tablodaki fırça darbeleri gibi türkülerde ifadesini bulur. “Aşk” duygusunun yoğun olarak ele alındığı türkülerde seven ve sevilen büyük ölçüde dönemin toplumsal koşulları gereği olarak ayrıdırlar. Bu sebeple türküler, seven ve sevilen arasında bir tür “iletişim” işlevi üstlenmiştir. Sevdiği kadınla doğrudan konuşmayan/konuşamayan erkek, tüm duygu, hayal ve arzularını, türküler aracılığıyla dile getirmiştir. Güzelses türkülerindeki sevgili, Türk halk türkülerinde genel olarak tasvir edilen güzellere benzer. “Hain, kâfir, çapkın ve zalim” olarak nitelendirilen bu güzeller, kara gözlü ve esmerdirler. Onlar, kendilerini seven erkeklere yüz vermez ve acı çektirirler. Bu durum, erkeği yoğun bir keder içine sokar. Aşk ve ayrılık duygusunun bileşkesindeki erkeğin tek dileği ise sevdiği kadına kavuşmaktır.
