Çocukluk çağı cinsel istismarı cinsiyet, yaş, din, dil, etnik köken, sosyal statü gözetmeksizin toplumun her kesiminde görülebilen sosyal bir halk sorunudur. Tüm çocuklar cinsel istismar riski altındadır, ancak bir çocuğun zihinsel engelli olması istismar mağduru olma riskini artıran önemli bir faktördür. Zihinsel engelli bireyler, cinsel istismara karşı genel nüfusa göre daha savunmasızdır ve suçu bildirme olasılıkları daha da düşüktür. Zihinsel engelli çocuğu olan ailelerin konuya dair farkındalıklarını artırmak, çocuklarının cinsel istismara uğrama riskini azaltmada etkili olacaktır. Bu makalenin amacı, başta zihinsel engelli çocuğa sahip aileler olmak üzere bu çocuklarla çalışan profesyonellerin literatür bilgisi ışığında bilgilendirilmesidir.
Childhood sexual abuse is a social and popular issue that can be seen in every part of society, regardless of gender, age, religion, language, ethnic origin, social status. All children are at risk of sexual abuse, but a child’s mental disability is an important factor that increases the risk of being a victim of abuse. Individuals with mental disabilities are more unprotected against sexual abuse than the general population, and the chances of reporting a crime are even lower. Increasing the awareness of families with mental disabilities will be effective in reducing the risk of their children being sexually abused. The purpose of this article is to inform professionals working with these children, primarily families with mental disabilities, in the light of literary knowledge.
Child sexual abuse is a social public problem that can be seen in all segments of society regardless of gender, age, religion, language, ethnicity, social status. Although all children are at risk of sexual abuse, the mental disability of the child is an important factor that increases the risk of exposure to abuse. Children with intellectual disabilities are more vulnerable to sexual abuse and even less likely to report crime than the general population. Increasing the awareness of families with mentally retarded children will be effective in reducing the risk of their children being sexually abused. The aim of this article is inform families with mentally retarded children and professionals working with children in the light of literature.
