Abstract:

In this study, the academic backgrounds and teaching competency of the instructors assigned to faculties of Education were analyzed. The model of the study is the descriptive scanning model, which is one of the general scanning models. The study is composed of two populations. The first encompasses all instructors of the education faculties all over the country. All of the education faculties in the population were included in the sampling. The prospective teachers being educated in the education faculties constitute the second population. The prospective teachers in the Education Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University were taken as the sample. Data concerning their teaching competency were obtained from the instructors. The teaching competency of the prospective teachers was also analyzed. The findings of the study revealed that the academic backgrounds of the instructors assigned to the education faculties is variable and that the number of the instructors with competences other than teaching is too high to be undermined, while there are many instructors trained in the teacher’s training faculties.
