Özellikle 1990’lı yıllarda, ülkeler yabancı yatırımları çekme konusunda rekabet etmeye başlamışlardır ve günümüzde de, doğrudan yatırımları teşvik ederek ekonomilerini geliştirme ve dış borçlarını finanse etme yolunu izlemektedirler. Doğrudan yatırımlar; yatırıma ev sahipliği yapan ülkelerde milli gelir artışı, istihdam artışı, teknoloji transferi ve ekonomik büyümeyi sağlar. Bununla birlikte, doğrudan yatırımlar özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerin ekonomik kalkınma hamlesini başlatacak önemli bir argümandır. Türkiye ise, genel olarak sahip olduğu yatırım çekme potansiyel seviyesine henüz ulaşamamıştır. Üstelik ülkemize gelen doğrudan yatırımlar, daha çok şirket birleşmeleri ve satın almalar ile gayrimenkul alanlarına yöneldiği için, makroekonomik değişkenlere etkisi oldukça sınırlı olmuştur. Bu çalışmada; doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımlarının diğer yatırımlardan farkı ortaya konulmuş ve ülkelere sağladığı katkılar açıklanmış; ülkemizin doğrudan yatırım performansı genel olarak ve sektör bazında değerlendirilerek birtakım çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur.

Direct investments ensure national income growth, employment growth, technology transfer and economic growth in the country receiving the investments. In addition to this, direct investments is an important aspect that will initiate the economic development movement of developing countries. However, Turkey, in general, has not yet reached its potential to attract investment. Moreover, the effect of direct investments on macroeconomic variables has been very limited in our country, as they have been used in mergers and acquisitions and for real estate development. In this study, the difference of foreign direct investments from other investments has been revealed and their contributions to the countries have been explained; the direct investment performance of our country has been evaluated in general and on industrial basis and several solution proposals have been presented.
