Abstract:

There are two important issues in becoming popular of cinema in Turkish society. One of them is the increase in the number of movie theaters , the other one is the increase of the periodicals related to thematic cinema. That the periodicals related to cinema produced content on cinema and spread the content from İstanbul to Anatolia resulted in huge demand of people about opening movie theaters and the movie theaters were opened eventually in the cities such as İzmir, Ankara, Bursa, Konya, Kayseri in addition to İstanbul. The first Turkish cinema periodicals written through Arabic letters in the Ottoman Empire were published in 1914. The periodicals were suspended with the start of the First World War and the number of the periodicals increased after the proclamation of the Rebuplic. In this study, first of all, the works forming the publishing of early cinema periodicals (1914-1928) were identified via literature review. Later, the works were digitized after the archive research and were made ready for future studies. In this study, the cinema periodicals were discussed as written on their tags. In other words, if the periodical identified itself as a magazine, it was tagged as a magazine. If the periodical identified itself as a newspaper, it was tagged as a newspaper.
