During the period of February 2002-January 2003, 85 cases with accidental corrosive ingestion who were come to department of pediatric gastroenterology in our hospital were evaluated retrospectively. The roentgenographic examination of chest was applied to the patients who were needed to be examine. The most frequent corrosive substance was household bleach (40.2%) (sodiumhypochloride) in this study. Upper gastrointestinal tract endoscopy was performed all patients within the first 48 hours of caustic ingestions. Endoscopy results were evaluated according to Savary-Miller Clasifications. Twenty-seven children with a second b-(n=15) or thirddegree (n=12) esophagus burns were treated with methylprednisolone. Control endoscopy was performed that children with two weeks intervals. We determinated sepsis as an early complication that two patient and development of esophageal stricture as an late complication that one patient.
