While examining the historical adventure of defining the Qur'an, it will be appropriate to start this action by the Qur'an itself. Because, in many verses, the Qur'an speaks of what it is and what it is sent for. These expressions of The Qur’an can be accepted as definitions. On the other hand, it is seen that Muslims have somehow been trying to define the Qur'an from the date of the revelation. The definitions of The Prophet (pbuh) and his companions for the Qur'an have been more in the form of expressing it’s virtues and purposes of sending. In the following centuries, usul al-fiqh and kalam have defined the Qur'an with help from the method of definition in classical logic. Especially the definitions made by usul al-fiqh have become widespread among muslims. The definitions made in the contemporary period are both similar to the previous ones and show serious differences. It is possible to see in the Qur'an definitions made by scholars where they stand and the reflections of their Qur'anic perceptions.
