Hepinizin bildiği gibi Pertev Naili Boratav sonrası kesintiye uğramış ve uzun sürmüş bir sessizliğin ardından Dil ve Tarih Coğrafya Fakültesi, Antropoloji Bölümü Etnoloji Kürsüsü’nde, -bugünkü gençlerin onu Kültürel Antropoloji olarak algılamasını isterim ki öyledir-, halkbilim içerikli derslerin ders programlarında yer almaya başladığı yıllar, benim lisans öğrenciliğim dönemine rastlar. Başta saygıyla ve rahmetle andığım Orhan Acıpayamlı, daha sonra Sedat Veyis Örnek hocalar bugün bile hala Halkbilimi ya da Türk Halk Bilimi Bölümlerinde ders ola-rak okutulan kimi konularını içeren derslerini vermeye başlamışlardı. O güne kadar din, sanat, mitoloji gibi etnolojinin genel konu başlıkları yerini yavaş yavaş bu coğrafyanın, Türk halk biliminin ana yapıtları, halk töresi, geçiş dönemleri, halk inançları, mesken, yağmur duası, nazar gibi konulara bırakmaktaydı. Daha sonra bizleri de şekillendiren, biçimlendiren bu etnoloji geleneği/ekolü içinden evrilmiş bir halkbilimciliğin içinde bulmuştuk kendimizi. Bu dönüşüm ya da yeni yaklaşımlardan etkileniyorduk bir öğrenci olarak, elbette bunda Sedat Veyis Örnek Hoca’nın çok büyük etkisi vardı. O günden beri kendimi bir etnolog-halkbilimci olarak tanımlamaya başladım.
As you all know, the years after Pertev Naili Boratav was interrupted and after a long silence at the Faculty of Language and History of Geography, at the Faculty of Anthropology Ethnology Course, I want today’s youth to perceive it as Cultural Anthropology, so, the years in which public science-containing courses began to be included in the curriculum, meets my bachelor’s study period. First with respect and mercy, Orhan Acıpayamlı, then Sedat Veyis Example teachers even today had begun to give their lessons including some subjects in the Folk Science or Turkish People's Sciences departments. Until that day, the general topics of ethnology, such as religion, art, mythology, were slowly leaving their place on topics such as this geography, the main works of Turkish folk science, the popular ceremony, the transition periods, the popular beliefs, the residence, the rain prayer, the Nazar. Then we found ourselves in a popular science that evolved from this ethnic tradition/school that shaped us. As a student we were influenced by this transformation or new approaches, of course Sedat Veyis Example Hoca had a great impact on it. Since that day, I have begun to define myself as an ethnolog-populist.
