Abstract:

This article aims to examine the impact of mergers on company performance. For this purpose, pre- and post-merger firm performances were compared to determine the financial characteristics of the companies participating in the merger. In the study, the Turkish Insurance Company, which started its activities in the Turkish insurance sector in 2020 with the merger of Ziraat, Halk, and Güneş insurance companies, is discussed. The performance of insurance companies was evaluated on 9 criteria consisting of financial and sector-specific ratios. The data of the companies for the period 2018-2022 were analyzed with a hybrid model consisting of CRITIC and WEDBA methods. As a result of the analysis, when the average of the performance rankings of these companies before the merger is taken, it is seen that it is consistent with the post-merger performance ranking of Türkiye Sigorta. It can be said that Türkiye Sigorta did not experience a decrease in its performance after the merger and maintained its performance.
