Bu araştırma, ortaokul 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyal bilgiler programında yer alan ekonomi ile ilgili kavramları anlama düzeylerini tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Tarama modelinde olan araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 8. sınıfta öğrenim gören toplam 120 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, sosyal bilgiler programında yer alan ekonomi ile ilgili 20 kavram tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin belirlenen kavramlara yönelik anlama düzeylerini ve kavram yanılgılarını tespit etmek amacıyla araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanmış, kısa cevaplı ve açık uçlu 20 sorudan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış kavram ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin ilgili kavramlara verdikleri cevaplar “anlama”, “sınırlı anlama”, “yanlış anlama”, “cevap verememe” kategorilerine göre betimsel analiz yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilerin analizi neticesinde öğrencilerin özellikle dağıtım, sermaye, kaynak, yatırım ve kıtlık kavramlarıyla ilgili yanlış anlamalara (kavram yanılgısı) sahip oldukları ve diğer kavramlarla ilgili anlama düzeylerinin genel olarak sınırlı düzeyde olduğu görülmüştür.
