Abstract:

When Turkish history is examined, leaders draw attention as the most effective reason for the establishment, development and collapse of states. Leaders shape the history of nations with their abilities, far-sightedness, and ability to fulfill the requirements of the age in which they live. Leader is expressed as the person who is effective in procuring the weapons necessary for strategy, discipline, intelligence, tactics and war. Another important characteristic is that they make political maneuvers on time and on the spot. The actions of the Seljuk Sultan Alp Arslan, which is the subject of our study, during the process of taking the City of Remembrance, which is one of his activities, proves that he has leadership qualities. In order to take the city of Alp Arslan, whose target is west, he made preparations such as weapons and equipment on time and on site. Before Anı, which was the largest and most sheltered city of its age in this region, was taken within the walls, castles were taken from Georgians, Armenians and Byzantines in a way to draw a kind of crescent. The Sultan's political maneuvers, exchange of ideas with his commanders, benefiting from intelligence information, and taking quick decisions in the face of the situation ensured that the city was taken. Since the castle is a city, the expression city is preferred in the text.
