El dokumacılığı, insanların yaşadıkları ortamda buldukları malzemeleri kullanarak doğa koşullarından korunma ve ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak amacıyla başlamış, yüzyıllık serüveni içerisinde gelişerek kültürel kimliğimizin birer parçası olmuştur. El dokumacılığı içerisinde önemli bir yere sahip olan düz dokumalar da ticari kaygı güdülmeden ihtiyaca yönelik üretilmiş, dokunan topluluğun ve dokuyanın gelenek, görenek, duygu ve beğenilerini yansıtan ortak bellek ürünleri olmuştur. Düz dokumalar halı dışında kalan havsız, kilim, cicim, zili (sili) ve sumak adıyla anılan dokumalardır. Araştırma kapsamına alınan Denizli iline bağlı çal ilçesi de düz dokuma örneklerinin azda olsa rastlandığı ilçelerden biridir. Araştırmada Çal’ın kabalar köyünde bulunan düz dokuma örneklerinin boyut, kullanılan malzeme, teknik, renk ve yanış adları açısından incelenerek tespit edilmesi ve kayıt altına alınması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla yöreye gidilmiş, köyde dokunduğu tespit edilen kilim, torba, heybe ve çuvalların fotoğrafları çekilmiş, bu dokumaları ellerinde bulunduran bireylerle karşılıklı görüşme yöntemi kullanılarak dokumalarla ilgili verilere ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda yörede düz dokumaların artık dokunmadığı, dokumayı bilen birey sayısının gittikçe azaldığı, incelenen örneklerde kullanılan dokuma ipliklerinin yün ve pamuk karışımı olduğu, dokumada kullanılan yanış adlarının yeni nesiller tarafından hatırlanmadığı, incelenen kilimlerin desenlerine göre “çakmacık, dört göllü, kırık yanışlı ve üç kuyulu” olarak adlandırıldığı tespit edilmiştir.

Hand-touching has begun with the aim of protecting and satisfying their needs by using the materials they find in the environment in which people live, and has evolved within the centuries and has become part of our cultural identity. Flat texts, which have an important place in hand-touching, have also been common memory products that reflect the traditions, appearances, feelings and likes of the touched community and the tissue, produced without commercial concerns. The study found that flat documents in the site were no longer touched, the number of individuals who knew the document was increasingly decreasing, the textile wire used in the examples was a mixture of wol and cotton, the wire names used in the document were not remembered by the new generations, according to the patterns of the studied wire, it was named "wire, four lakes, broken wire and three holes".

Hand weaving has become a part of our cultural identity by developing within the century-old adventure that has started to meet the needs and to protect from the natural conditions by using the materials that people find in their environment. Flat weaving, which has an important place in hand weaving, has been produced for the needs without commercial care, and has been the common memory products reflecting the traditions, customs, feelings and tastes of the weaving community and a weaver. Flat weavings are kilim (rug), cicim (rug woven), zili (sili) and sumac known as downy textiles other than carpets. The Çal district of Denizli province is one of the districts where flat weaving samples are found. In this study, size, material, technique, color and pattern (yanış) names of the flat weaving samples found in Kabalar village of Çal district were intended to be identified and recorded. For this purpose, the region was visited; the rugs, bags, saddlebags and sacks that were found to be weaved in the village were photographed; the data about the weavings were obtained by using the interview method with the individuals who hold these weavings. As a result of the research, it is observed that flat weavings are no longer weaving in the region; the number of individuals who know weaving is gradually decreasing; yarns used in the woven samples are blended with wool and cotton; the names of the pattern (yanış) used in weavings are not remembered by new generations and it has been determined that rugs are named according to their ornaments as “lighter (Çakmacık), four lakes (dört göllü), fractured pattern (kırık yanışlı) ve three wells (üç kuyulu)”.
