Abstract:

The most general definition of violence in health is that the health staff is subjected to physical or psychological attacks by the patient, the patient’s relatives or any other person while at work. Violence in health is increasing on a daily basis and threatens health workers seriously. Therefore, the investigation of the subject of violence in health and the causes of the violence occurring is of great importance. The aim of this study is to identify the conditions of exposure of healthcare workers to violence and to identify the relationships between the personality characteristics of healthcare workers and the life of fear of exposure to violence in the future. The universe of the study consists of 135 doctors and nurses working in a private hospital operating in Sakarya province. The aim was to reach the entire universe without any sample being chosen, but 112 nurses and doctors were available. In the study, a survey form consisting of four sections was used as a data collection tool. In addition to detective statistical methods in data analysis, Spearman's correlation analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used. The data was analyzed in a 95% confidence range. According to the results of the study, there is no meaningful relationship between the violence incidents that health workers have experienced and their personality characteristics. Therefore, researchers who will conduct research on health violence are recommended to investigate other causes related to health workers, patients and patients' relatives.
