Türkiye'de 1 Kasım 1928 tarihinde Osmanlı alfabesi yerine Türkçe'ye uyarlanmış Latin alfabesinin kullanılmaya başlanması, okuma yazma açısından hayatî önem taşıyan çok cesur bir devrimdi. Ancak, ilk yılları tasarım adına hızlı ve cesur, sabırlı ve kolay uyum sağlayabilen hattatlara ihtiyaç gösteren bir dönemdir. Bu cesur hattatlardan biri olan, eski yazıyı "yenerek" yaptığı çalışmalarıyla herkeste hayranlık uyandıran Hattat Halim Efendi'nin, bu devrimle birlikte karşısına çıkan yeni alfabeyle mücadelesini, yaptığı işten vazgeçme ile uyumlanmaya çalışma arasında gidip gelişini, ortaya koyduğu pek çok eskiz, taslak, baskı kalıbı, kartvizit, logo ve tabela tasarımı üzerinden izleyerek inceleyen bu araştırma, hattatın sanatı, tasarımı ve yaşamı kadar, ulusun dönüşümünü de konu alarak, Türk grafik tasarım tarihinde bu değişimin önemini vurgulamaktadır.
In Turkey on 1 November 1928, the introduction of the Latin alphabet adapted to Turkey instead of the Ottoman alphabet was a very courageous revolution of vital importance in terms of reading and writing. However, the first years are a period in which the design needs lines that are fast and courageous, patient and easy to adapt. One of these brave lines, the work of Hattat Halim Efendi, whose work "renovered" the old text, worshipped admiration to everyone, the struggle with the new alphabet that came up with this revolution, the arrival of the work and the work of abandonment and adaptation, the many sketches, designs, printing patterns, card visits, logos and table design, this research, which examines the importance of this change in the history of the Turkish graphic design, taking into account the art, design and life of the line, and the transformation of the nation.
