Abstract:

The epidemic, which has affected the world in early 2020, has seriously affected Afghanistan, which has been fighting for years with continued instability and poverty. Afghanistan, which has not been able to get rid of diseases such as angina, child paralysis and tuberculosis, has been faced with a new virus in a period of lack of adequate health infrastructure. As the capacity of healthcare in the country is extremely weak, the actual cases and deaths are considered to be far above official statistics. The low number of cases in the country is directly related to the capacity of the health system. Afghanistan, faced with civil war, nutritional problems, unemployment, poverty and medical disadvantages, in May with the rise of Covid-19 cases, the health system, which is inadequate, has completely collapsed. In the fight against disruption, as well as the low community participation, the lack of health personnel and health equipment is one of the most important challenges Afghanistan faces. However, a low level of compliance with social distance rules, restrictions and health advice, including control measures in some areas, and limited access to public health services in rural areas have made the fight against Covid-19 even more difficult. On the other hand, the financial support provided by the international community to Afghanistan in the fight against the epidemic has not been used due to corruption. The aim of this study is to reveal the destruction that the epidemic has created in Afghanistan, which is living in an internal conflict, and to address the shortcomings and challenges in the fight against the epidemic.
