Abstract:

One of the most significant manuscripts from the Karakhanid Period is the Dîvânu Lugâti't-Turk. It served as a mirror of the culture of the Turkish princes that ruled in the 11th century in addition to serving as a dictionary. This text combines several regionally used Turkish dialects and provides details on the mannerisms of the time, including information on people’s clothing, dietary habits, traditions and customs, and their patterns of production and consumption. Additionally, this dictionary offers its users extensive information on topics related to visual arts and art history. This study pays special attention to the phrases "architecture" and "handicrafts," featured in the dictionary. Instead of providing a list of these terms, our goal is to try to recapture the production methods and tools used and incorporating them into a coherent based on the dictionary's information. In an effort to write a realistic fiction, current sources were also used during the narration. Thus, it is clear that Turkish production culture survived by preserving its main elements.
