Abstract:

Abstract This article presents an analysis of the characteristics of English learning in Class X Second Semester Senior High School based on the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia. The background of the study is the implementation of face-to-face and online teaching and learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to a learning crisis. The Merdeka Curriculum was introduced as a response to address this crisis and provides teachers and students with the freedom to choose learning methods. The aim of the study is to analyze the structure and methods of the curriculum and determine its effectiveness for Grade X students. The methodology used is literature review and content analysis of the English language curriculum syllabi for 10th-grade high school students. The findings reveal specific characteristics of the Merdeka Curriculum, including a focus on elements of listening, speaking, reading, viewing, writing, and presenting, the inclusion of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project, and an emphasis on practical proficiency, technology integration, culturally diverse content, project-based learning, and comprehensive assessment methods. The study concludes that the Merdeka Curriculum aims to equip students with the necessary language skills and competencies for a global society. The implications of the study highlight the importance of student-centered approaches, technology integration, cultural diversity, collaboration, and comprehensive assessment in English language teaching.
