Social media draws a great interest in the society and is used as a tool of education in recent years. Social media tools provide many opportunities for artists and art educators. However, when the national and international literature is examined, it has been observed that there is very little research on visual arts teacher candidates to use social media in the art education process. The aim of this study is to examine the opinions of visual arts teacher candidates towards the use of social media in the art education process. Depending on the purpose of the research, a case study pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, has been used in the study. The study group of the research was occurred from 28 pre-service teachers studying under the Art Education program within the Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Education in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. The study group has been determined based on the criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. In the research, semi-structured interview form has been used. The data collected in this direction were analyzed by content analysis. As a result of the analyzes, the most preferred “Pinterest” was determined among the social media applications used by teacher candidates for educational purposes. It has been determined that there are many reasons that direct pre-service teachers to social media applications. In addition, it has been determined that pre-service teachers have positive and negative thoughts about the use of social media in the art education process. As a result of the researches, alternative learning models can be proposed in art education classes using new technologies including social media.
